DESCRIPTION:THURSDAY:  Philippians 2:1-30 –  Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ\, if any comfort from his love\, if any common sharing in the Spirit\, if any tenderness and compassion\, 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded\, having the same love\, being one in spirit and of one mind. 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather\, in humility value others above yourselves\, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.  5 In your relationships with one another\, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:  6 Who\, being in very nature God\, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather\, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant\, being made in human likeness.  8 And being found in appearance as a man\, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!  9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name\, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow\,  in heaven and on earth and under the earth\, 11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord\, to the glory of God the Father.  12 Therefore\, my dear friends\, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence\, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling\, 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.  14 Do everything without grumbling or arguing\, 15 so that you may become blameless and pure\, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky 16 as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain. 17 But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith\, I am glad and rejoice with all of you. 18 So you too should be glad and rejoice with me.  19 I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon\, that I also may be cheered when I receive news about you. 20 I have no one else like him\, who will show genuine concern for your welfare. 21 For everyone looks out for their own interests\, not those of Jesus Christ. 22 But you know that Timothy has proved himself\, because as a son with his father he has served with me in the work of the gospel. 23 I hope\, therefore\, to send him as soon as I see how things go with me. 24 And I am confident in the Lord that I myself will come soon.  25 But I think it is necessary to send back to you Epaphroditus\, my brother\, co-worker and fellow soldier\, who is also your messenger\, whom you sent to take care of my needs. 26 For he longs for all of you and is distressed because you heard he was ill. 27 Indeed he was ill\, and almost died. But God had mercy on him\, and not on him only but also on me\, to spare me sorrow upon sorrow. 28 Therefore I am all the more eager to send him\, so that when you see him again you may be glad and I may have less anxiety. 29 So then\, welcome him in the Lord with great joy\, and honor people like him\, 30 because he almost died for the work of Christ. He risked his life to make up for the help you yourselves could not give me.

DESCRIPTION:FRIDAY:  Mark 1:1-45 –  1 The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah\, the Son of God\, 2 as it is written in Isaiah the prophet:  “I will send my messenger ahead of you\, who will prepare your way”— 3 “a voice of one calling in the wilderness\, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord\, make straight paths for him.’”  4 And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness\, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. 5 The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins\, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River. 6 John wore clothing made of camel’s hair\, with a leather belt around his waist\, and he ate locusts and wild honey. 7 And this was his message: “After me comes the one more powerful than I\, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. 8 I baptize you with water\, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”  9 At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water\, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. 11 And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son\, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”  12 At once the Spirit sent him out into the wilderness\, 13 and he was in the wilderness forty days\, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals\, and angels attended him.  14 After John was put in prison\, Jesus went into Galilee\, proclaiming the good news of God. 15 “The time has come\,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” \n16 As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee\, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake\, for they were fishermen. 17 “Come\, follow me\,” Jesus said\, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” 18 At once they left their nets and followed him.  19 When he had gone a little farther\, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat\, preparing their nets. 20 Without delay he called them\, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him. \n21 They went to Capernaum\, and when the Sabbath came\, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. 22 The people were amazed at his teaching\, because he taught them as one who had authority\, not as the teachers of the law. 23 Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an impure spirit cried out\, 24 “What do you want with us\, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”  25 “Be quiet!” said Jesus sternly. “Come out of him!” 26 The impure spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek.  27 The people were all so amazed that they asked each other\, “What is this? A new teaching—and with authority! He even gives orders to impure spirits and they obey him.” 28 News about him spread quickly over the whole region of Galilee.  29 As soon as they left the synagogue\, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew. 30 Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever\, and they immediately told Jesus about her. 31 So he went to her\, took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them.  32 That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed. 33 The whole town gathered at the door\, 34 and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons\, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was.  35 Very early in the morning\, while it was still dark\, Jesus got up\, left the house and went off to a solitary place\, where he prayed. 36 Simon and his companions went to look for him\, 37 and when they found him\, they exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you!”  38 Jesus replied\, “Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.” 39 So he traveled throughout Galilee\, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons.  40 A man with leprosy came to him and begged him on his knees\, “If you are willing\, you can make me clean.”  41 Jesus was indignant. He reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing\,” he said. “Be clean!” 42 Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cleansed.  43 Jesus sent him away at once with a strong warning: 44 “See that you don’t tell this to anyone. But go\, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing\, as a testimony to them.” 45 Instead he went out and began to talk freely\, spreading the news. As a result\, Jesus could no longer enter a town openly but stayed outside in lonely places. Yet the people still came to him from everywhere.

DESCRIPTION:THURSDAY:  Ephesians 4:17-32 –  17 So I tell you this\, and insist on it in the Lord\, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do\, in the futility of their thinking. 18 They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. 19 Having lost all sensitivity\, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity\, and they are full of greed.  20 That\, however\, is not the way of life you learned 21 when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. 22 You were taught\, with regard to your former way of life\, to put off your old self\, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self\, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.  25 Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor\, for we are all members of one body. 26 “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry\, 27 and do not give the devil a foothold. 28 Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer\, but must work\, doing something useful with their own hands\, that they may have something to share with those in need.  29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths\, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs\, that it may benefit those who listen. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God\, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Get rid of all bitterness\, rage and anger\, brawling and slander\, along with every form of malice. 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another\, forgiving each other\, just as in Christ God forgave you.

DESCRIPTION:TUESDAY:  Colossians 2:1-23 –  I want you to know how hard I am contending for you and for those at Laodicea\, and for all who have not met me personally. 2 My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love\, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding\, in order that they may know the mystery of God\, namely\, Christ\, 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. 4 I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments. 5 For though I am absent from you in body\, I am present with you in spirit and delight to see how disciplined you are and how firm your faith in Christ is.  6 So then\, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord\, continue to live your lives in him\, 7 rooted and built up in him\, strengthened in the faith as you were taught\, and overflowing with thankfulness.  8 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy\, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.  9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form\, 10 and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority. 11 In him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not performed by human hands. Your whole self ruled by the flesh was put off when you were circumcised by Christ\, 12 having been buried with him in baptism\, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God\, who raised him from the dead.  13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh\, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins\, 14 having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness\, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away\, nailing it to the cross. 15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities\, he made a public spectacle of them\, triumphing over them by the cross.  16 Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink\, or with regard to a religious festival\, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. 17 These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality\, however\, is found in Christ. 18 Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you. Such a person also goes into great detail about what they have seen; they are puffed up with idle notions by their unspiritual mind. 19 They have lost connection with the head\, from whom the whole body\, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews\, grows as God causes it to grow.  20 Since you died with Christ to the elemental spiritual forces of this world\, why\, as though you still belonged to the world\, do you submit to its rules: 21 “Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”? 22 These rules\, which have to do with things that are all destined to perish with use\, are based on merely human commands and teachings. 23 Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom\, with their self-imposed worship\, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body\, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.
